About Us

Loch Lomond Bakery and Catering is located in Hyattsville, Maryland and is owned and operated by Vijay Sharma. An award-winning pastry chef of international acclaim, Mr. Sharma, has pleased the palates of ambassadors, presidents and dignitaries for nearly 40 years.
Priding itself as the only authentic Scottish bakery in the Washington metropolitan area, Loch Lomond is well known for its beef pies, English trifles and strawberry pineapple cakes. As a regular supplier to the British Embassy and the White House, patrons can be assured of distinctive taste, quality and presentation.
Mr. Sharma prepared the famous American Flag cake that played the Star Spangled Banner during President Reagan's 1981 Inaugural Ball and also provided peanut cakes, cookies and other peanut desserts during President Carter's years in the White House. Once, he baked a giant oil well cake which gushed melba sauce for over 1,500 guests. Vijay Sharma started his career in Tokyo and was a master baker at London's Piccadilly Hotel, the Indian Embassy, and before buying Loch Lomond, was an executive pastry chef with Ridgewells Caterers in Washington, D.C. He speaks Japanese, Spanish, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, English and a smattering of other languages.
